Love locks in Paris: oui or non?

1

There has been a recent report that part of the pont des arts collapsed over the weight of the love locks. This is a romantic gesture that started in 2007 where lovers put a lock on the bridge usually with their initials or name and throw the key in the water. Locks are popping up all over the city. Read the full story here While it is a romantic gesture, Paris is a romantic city in itself. Do people need to declare their love with a lock while it destroys historical parts of Paris such as the pont des arts? What are your thoughts? Love locks in Paris yes or no?

I think someone slept at the wheel with this one because anyone with a little technical background in metal structure knows that you cannot add weight infinitly to a man-made structure, someday it will collapse ……… someone at the city of Paris should have raise a red flag before and stopped that. Now they have to deal with a damage structure and removing the lock to prevent more dammage to the bridge.

I think we have an obligation to preserve history for future generation (yes I did work in a museum) and although putting a lock on the bridge of love is very romantic, if the bridge is damage by doing so, we are not doing future generation any good
