Paris – A State of Mind

8

You hear it so often in a New York State of Mind. I think I am constantly in a Paris State of Mind. I have had a few projects in the US including LA and Chicago that have taken me away from my true love of Paris. My biggest project is Paris based and I am pretty darn excited about it. So for now if you don’t mind I will be in a Paris State of Mind until further notice. I hope you will join me!

Happy Birthday Madame Eiffel

2

When I arrive in Paris each time I make a point to make a nod to Madame Eiffel. Its like a tip of the hat to say hello nice to see you again. I have also gotten in the habit of calling her Madame Eiffel. Over the years I have shared many memories under the eiffel tower. I have seen her covered in fog, watched the sunrise behind her, blossoms blooming all around her, the most stunning sunsets with her as the focus, and yes I have even had romantic picnics under the eiffel tower. This is probably one of my favorite memories 😉

The eiffel tower has been part of some of my favorite Paris photos because what’s more Paris than Madame Eiffel? We will be reunited once again in just a few short weeks. I have a few things planned with Madame Eiffel and since our birthdays are less than two weeks, a celebration is in order.

Paris Memories

3

One of my favorite memories of Paris last year was reconnecting with an old high school friend. He was working for an American company and was transferred to Paris for a few months. He found an amazing apartment in St Germain and invited me over to take a look. The place was top to bottom in white but the wrap around terrace overlooking the St Germain rooftops and Eiffel Tower were the best part. Lucky for me when I asked if I could photograph from his roof one evening he agreed. I collected a few pastries from Pierre Herme and met him as he ran home from work to meet me.

Simply breathtaking. We caught up about work different Paris restaurants we wanted to try before we both left the city. As the sunset the eiffel tower sparkled on the hour through his picture perfect balcony window. I am so happy to have this memory captured in my mind and through my lens.

Pops of Red in Paris

10

Even on the grayest days in Paris you can find pops of color around the city. One of my favorites and most popular in Paris is the color red. Perhaps I am still in the Valentine’s Day mood but here you go!

Reflecting and taking it all in

4

As you might be able to tell from the last post I am doing a lot of thinking and reflecting. These last few weeks have been amazing and a lot of work. I haven’t begun to scratch the surface as far as editing and combing through new images and the holidays are just around the corner. I am truly grateful for each day that I am able to spend traveling. Not to mention the people I have been meeting have been wonderful. Here is a photo from around the corner from my Paris apartment and is one of my favorite parts of walking home.

St Germain Strolling

0

I woke up to rain in Paris. It surprises me how much rain can actually fall in one city… I walk everyday no matter what so I didn’t let it stop me. We luckily had a few hours of sunshine this afternoon where I strolled through Ile St Louis picked up some raspberry ice cream from Berthillon and made my way to St Germain.

I have talked about the season in Paris before but its really interesting to see the way the trees frame the architecture. In the Spring you will notice certain buildings because of the blossoms, in the winter the trees are bare and the architecture looks completely different. With the changing of the leaves my eye bounces from one building to the next as the greens and reds contrast the blues and grays of Paris.

Climbing the stairs in Paris

11

There is something about Parisian stairs that get me. Last year I lived on the 6th floor and I challenged myself to climb up and down the stairs and unless I absolutely had to I never took the lift. This lift fit me and my suitcase. When I am exploring Parisian courtyards and friends apartments I can’t help but check out the staircases. Here are a few.
