St Germain Strolling

0

I woke up to rain in Paris. It surprises me how much rain can actually fall in one city… I walk everyday no matter what so I didn’t let it stop me. We luckily had a few hours of sunshine this afternoon where I strolled through Ile St Louis picked up some raspberry ice cream from Berthillon and made my way to St Germain.

I have talked about the season in Paris before but its really interesting to see the way the trees frame the architecture. In the Spring you will notice certain buildings because of the blossoms, in the winter the trees are bare and the architecture looks completely different. With the changing of the leaves my eye bounces from one building to the next as the greens and reds contrast the blues and grays of Paris.

The more I get lost the more I find my way

2

Living in Paris hasn’t been perfect. There are everyday language struggles as I try to figure things out. What flavor is something? Trying to figure out a menu, mailing things at the post office, and most importantly how to wash and dry my clothes without breaking the machine! My daily walks get me lost just about everyday as I follow what looks interesting instead of sticking to the map.

But each and everyday I am learning new words and discovering new parts of Paris… I am finding my way one day at a time!

Paris by Foot

10

My favorite way to see Paris is by foot. The metro is easy to get around Paris if you want to go from one side to the next in a short amount of time but you miss so much. Today I woke up before most people in Paris and hiked to the top of Sacre Couer.

This is looking down but its about 268 stairs each way = 536 steps. Which is about one pain au chocolat…

I watched as the city turned on their lights and woke up for their day. This is one of my favorite ways to see the city.

I decided to skip the metro today and see the city by foot. I get lots a lot. I don’t have the best sense of direction. Today I kept the map in my pocket and walked left right straight which ever way I felt until I reached the Seine.

I passed some beautiful doorways on my walk. These caught my eye.

I ended up at one of my favorite places all the way in St. Germain across the Seine. Today was actually the opposite of what I was hoping for. I came to Paris to learn to “sit” and not be on the move as much. Tomorrow is another day.
