Paris Bound…starting this Monday

4

I didn’t plan it but I always hoped to be back in Paris this year. After leaving in June I knew I would settle down with a home base. Something I have struggled with for a long time. I am slowly adjusting to life in Chicago getting a little more settled everyday. But then I got an email with an invitation to Paris. Who would say no?

Paris in the Autumn Last year I left at the beginning of November ready to start my busy holiday season. I am squeezing in one last trip. 8 days which is the shortest Paris trip I have taken since 2012. This trip I am staying with family and I am so excited to see them. I am looking forward to catching up with old friends and exploring the city with a new set of eyes. It always helps going away for awhile. As much as I hate it… its good creatively to have a new approach. I have been working on a project for a few months now so there will be lots of research and photos to go along with it. Overnight Fall

8

We had the most beautiful warm October here in Paris. I have heard rumors it was the warmest on record for a long while. It was an extended Indian Summer. Just last week I took photos on the Seine and it was dress weather! Overnight the weather turned chilly this week as the calendar changed to November. It tends to do that. I explored a new little area of Montmartre yesterday before the rain and cold came in. I just adore this little street.

Autumn Perfection

0

Perfection is hard to achieve but today the weather was pretty much there. I of course always pack an umbrella because you never know when a downpour will happen. I met a new friend at the Bastille market to show him around. Its one of my favorite places if you haven’t read already. Thankfully my friend was up for anything I threw his way. We walked up and down the aisles as I pointed out some of my favorite vendors. Then we started tasting things… I told him that everything tasted better in France. Apples, tomatoes, cheese, even oysters. We tasted it all. His reaction “oh my gosh this is good!!” It of course made me smile knowing that he agreed. We grabbed a few cheeses and my favorite baguette and headed to Place de Vosges. Sitting in the sun it was finally not raining and it felt more like Spring than Fall. Autumn Perfection…

The last few weeks I have been on the move and in between spending time with family.  I have been busy balancing work and planning for this next trip to Paris. I am also planning a side trip to Italy and I am looking for suggestions. If you have any favorite cities, restaurants, must see places please share! I haven’t been to Florence in 7 years and Rome its been 11 so I think I might need to pay them a visit. Plus I have been craving gelato and pasta. A perfect reason for a visit. Well that and the fact that I haven’t explored these two cities with my camera in a while. As the years go by my eye changes and its fun to see the city in a different way.

If you are on instagram and would like to follow you can see my daily photos here @rebeccaplotnick I promise to keep you up to date on my travels through Italy/Paris. This should provide a little armchair travel if you can’t make it to Europe.

Here are a few photos from last years Autumn in Paris:

Let the planning begin!

The hard stuff is out of the way I am happy to report I found an apartment in a location I am so excited to explore! I have lived in Montmatre for 4 months and the 5th arrondissement for a month and a half and now I am so happy to be able to explore the 2nd arrondissement. I am staying on a small little street behind the Palais Royal.

You may wonder why I chose this location and perhaps some people may think its a little touristy. I am hoping the small street tucked away behind the Palais Royal will bring a little escape and still put me in the center of the city. I was deciding between a Montmatre apartment that I have already stayed in or the current apartment in the 2nd and I literally got goosebumps thinking of walking out and seeing the louvre, the palais royal, and the seine in the early morning light. When I lived in Montmartre I would walk down to the Seine everyday and well to be perfectly honest I was distracted by every little detail, beautiful door, and boulangerie I passed by. I would arrive to the Seine later than anticipated.

Of course I will miss my favorite boulangerie around the corner in Montmartre but I will be closer to one in the Marais. Clearly I have priorities… I cannot wait to catch up with old friends over coffee and walks through the leave filled streets in the autumn. Let’s be honest who wouldn’t love a backyard that looks like this? Someone pinch me…

Paris apartment hunting

2

I have heard rumors of how stressful Paris apartment hunting can actually be. In the past I have found it challenging but not too bad. This last time around its getting to be more difficult. I am not sure if its because of the success and popularity of airbnb or the trend of renting apartments in Paris. I will have to fill you all in on the good/bad details of the apartment hunt after my current apartment is confirmed. Fingers crossed please! Once its confirmed I can start the fun start of planning. I can’t wait to catch up with friends over coffee and glasses of wine at the many outdoor cafes in the city. Oh and I plan on traveling to another country! Any guesses?
