Every Day Parisian

In 2013 I packed up my apartment and belongings to move to Paris. The original plan was three months. I arrived in Paris in the cold winter months but I quickly knew I wanted to stay longer. After my three months was over I left for home… I cried the whole plane ride. I did not want to leave but without a Visa I couldn’t stay longer. I headed back to Chicago to plan my next trip. Three months turned into three years of a nomadic life. Traveling between Paris and the States.

It was hard and sometimes stressful but I didn’t want to give up the chance to be back in Paris. Relationships and friendships were difficult because I was always on the move. Over the years I created a great network of friends in Paris. They were a group of creative minds that understood the Paris expat life.

After three years and encouragement from my family I decided to put down roots back in Chicago. It was one of the hardest decisions. Paris had become my comfort zone and I didn’t want to give it up. I moved back and ended up giving away most of what was in storage. I was a different person now and those “things” didn’t matter anymore. I reached out on instagram about the word “home” and how it was a new word as I hadn’t had a place to call home in three years. The response was overwhelming. So many people from around the world had similar experiences to mine. They were homesick for Paris just as much as I was. As I settled back into life in the States I realized how much of my life was still Parisian. The way I dressed, grocery shopped, cooked, and decorated was all Parisian. So in an effort to cure my homesickness I decided to launch a blog called Every Day Parisian. The lifestyle blog will cover everything from books, recipes, style tips, and for those visiting Paris a guide on places to eat/sleep/shop. Since the idea was something that came from you I want it to involve the community. I already have a great team of expats that are ready to contribute and share their stories with you. I am so proud to announce Every Day Parisian

This was my first blog and I started back in 2011 which is crazy to think so much has happened since then. I wouldn’t be here without your support over all these years! Thank you so much for everything. Your opinion matters the most. I would love to know what you think of the new site! www.everydayparisian.com

Its crazy to think that after all this time of blogging I never switched to a .com site. It always seemed overwhelming and never something I wanted to venture into… I now know why after spending hours on the phone with godaddy.com and bluehost.com I was blue in the face… pun intended. But somehow I got over all of my blog content onto www.rebecca-plotnick.com  There is still a lot to do as far as making it look the way I want but I will save that for a little while down the road. As I mentioned before I have a few surprises up my sleeve which you will really love so stay tuned. Did you see my new logo?

An Introduction…

_Q2A3267.jpg

In case you are new around here let me introduce myself! I am Rebecca Plotnick and I am originally from Cincinnati Ohio. I was born in raised in the Midwest but somehow ended up with an east coast accent.

My first trip abroad was in 2003 for a semester in Florence. This was also my first of many trips to Paris. I currently live in Chicago but call Paris “home”

In 2008 I became a statistic loosing my job in the recession. I decided to take a chance at my dream job as a travel photographer. My life is not Instagram perfect everyday and I work crazy hours ( I am eating dinner as I type this at 5:30pm) I am still learning the work life balance but try to take time out for yoga or dance which I have been known to call “meetings” during the day.

I have a dry sense of humor I got from my Dad and occasionally I am the only one that laughs at my jokes but that’s ok…! Thank you for following along on this crazy adventure with me. If you have any questions about me or my job ask away!

*P.S. In case you are wondering I rarely wear heels in Paris but these JCrew heels were too pretty to pass up! I typically spend all day walking in my favorite flats by Yosi Samara. I could literally walk 10 miles in them and they feel like slippers!

HOME

home

Home. A four letter word I am not used to. Three years ago I packed up my Chicago apt to move to paris for three months. I put all my belongings in storage knowing that I did not want to return the same person. I was looking for change. Once I arrived in Paris in the freezing cold month of February I knew I wanted to stay longer. Back and forth between the states and paris I went moving more times that I care to admit. Without a visa I couldn’t stay put long term. Three months turned into three years of a nomadic life. The thing is I wouldn’t change a thing. My life has changed in so many ways I am still trying to sort everything all in my head. So here I am in Chicago three years later. A different person than when I left. My storage unit filled with belongings that are just now “things” Instead of moving them into my new home I gave away everything and threw away the key. A new beginning starts now.

Good Fortune

I promise to continue my series of Solo Travel later this week but I wanted to share this little bit of good news. Last week I spoke to Fortune.com about my etsy business. 86% of people that sell on etsy are female. Luckily they decided to chat with me for a little about my story. Of course only a small snip bit made it into the article but I thought I would share.

I am a big dreamer but in my wildest dreams dreams I never thought I would make it to a fortune.com article. I guess it shows you if you think BiG you get BIG!! Click here to read the Fortune.com article.
