Paris time… chasing the light

19

My days have been filled lately with chasing the light. People always ask me what my favorite thing to do in Paris and I usually say walking. I walk for hours and hours discovering new parts of the city. But lately with this morning and evening light I have picked up a new activity… simply chasing the light. If you are wondering what exactly that is. I simply follow where the light is hitting the streets and buildings. It sounds easy but its all about timing.

You see this light isn’t so easy. Paris likes to play hiding games with the sun and can be moody at times. The sun rises around 6:15 these days so that means very early morning strolls. But they are worth it!

Then you also have the afternoon light which is so lovely when you find a hidden courtyard in St Germain de pres.

Just as the sun begins to set you can find the light hitting the buildings just right. Last night I found myself chasing the light which sun sets around 9:15. It makes for very long days but when the right is just right you can’t go wrong in Paris.

Blink. Paris Moments

6

Paris is filled with charm. The fun part for me is catching the moments that happen for a blink and then they are gone. This morning it was not sunny and I had not planned to walk over the Seine. At the exact moment I did I caught this:

A man was walking over the bridge and watched me capture the moment. He asked to see the image on my camera to see if I was able to capture the beauty that was in front of us. Luckily I think I did ok 😉

I walked in circles today visiting Paris and showing a friend around to some of my favorite spots. I had my first savory crepe today. What took me so long? I popped by one of my favorite streets for a baguette and then I noticed this bike that had flowers on the back. It was next to a flower shop so I assumed it was part of the display. But quickly realized it was really someone’s bike. Picture perfect I had to grab it while I could. He was extremely patient and gave me a few extra snaps. He just couldn’t figure out why I was so fascinated with this image. For him its normal…

Home sick for Paris

2

It finally feels like Summer in Chicago. Almost over night the temperature increased about 30 degrees and everyone is out and about. Tables line the streets and al fresco dining has begun. Summer in Chicago is the best time of the year. Its what Chicagoans look forward most especially after such a brutal winter. I have been editing images for the last couple of days while I work on a project and I can’t help but feel homesick for Paris…

Paris is for Lovers

11

Its hard not to notice all the lovers in Paris. Young and old there are couples holding hands, kissing, or sitting close to one another. Its rare that I photograph people but when given the perfect opportunity I can’t pass it up. Recently a client asked for images of this exact type in black and white. So I decided to share with you a few images of Paris is for lovers.

Red Balloons in Paris – The Series

9

I have wanted to do a series of red balloons around Paris for sometime but just never got around doing it until today. Yesterday I posted the beginning of the series as I walked home with the balloons. The shops don’t open until 10:30 AM here and I wanted to do an early morning shot with the balloons. We started with 5 and it was very funny how they popped one by one throughout the day. This was such a fun series to shoot and will take a little while to edit along with the other photographs from Paris. I hope you enjoy one of my favorites!

Another Sunday Morning on Ile St Louis

1

I really love spending time on Ile St Louis. During different times of the day the island is changing. This morning I met my friend Melissa for breakfast at St Regis. I arrived a little before her so I took the opportunity to capture the morning light. After a fun chat over pancakes I was off to the Bastille market…
