An Introduction…

4

_Q2A3267.jpg

In case you are new around here let me introduce myself! I am Rebecca Plotnick and I am originally from Cincinnati Ohio. I was born in raised in the Midwest but somehow ended up with an east coast accent.

My first trip abroad was in 2003 for a semester in Florence. This was also my first of many trips to Paris. I currently live in Chicago but call Paris “home”

In 2008 I became a statistic loosing my job in the recession. I decided to take a chance at my dream job as a travel photographer. My life is not Instagram perfect everyday and I work crazy hours ( I am eating dinner as I type this at 5:30pm) I am still learning the work life balance but try to take time out for yoga or dance which I have been known to call “meetings” during the day.

I have a dry sense of humor I got from my Dad and occasionally I am the only one that laughs at my jokes but that’s ok…! Thank you for following along on this crazy adventure with me. If you have any questions about me or my job ask away!

*P.S. In case you are wondering I rarely wear heels in Paris but these JCrew heels were too pretty to pass up! I typically spend all day walking in my favorite flats by Yosi Samara. I could literally walk 10 miles in them and they feel like slippers!

Chasing Light

4

I have been completely absent from the blog and I will be the first to admit I let it slide. I spent an amazing two weeks in Paris in April and my long days got the best of me. If you follow along on instagram you were able to see some of what I was up to. I recently joined snapchat too so that was really fun to give a more detailed account of my daily life in Paris.

Emma loved Paris and although my family’s trip was very short we had an amazing Sunday in Paris. Its my favorite day in the city and I was able to give my family a glimpse into my life in Paris. I will be sharing more about their visit in a later post.

To keep you up to date there are a lot of changes happening with my logo and there is even a brand extension I have been working on for a while that I am finally ready to move forward with.

I will be editing and catching up this month as I get ready for my favorite show of the year Wells Street which is next month! I can’t wait to fill you in on everything. Until then here are a few images from the latest trip!

Paris time… chasing the light

19

My days have been filled lately with chasing the light. People always ask me what my favorite thing to do in Paris and I usually say walking. I walk for hours and hours discovering new parts of the city. But lately with this morning and evening light I have picked up a new activity… simply chasing the light. If you are wondering what exactly that is. I simply follow where the light is hitting the streets and buildings. It sounds easy but its all about timing.

You see this light isn’t so easy. Paris likes to play hiding games with the sun and can be moody at times. The sun rises around 6:15 these days so that means very early morning strolls. But they are worth it!

Then you also have the afternoon light which is so lovely when you find a hidden courtyard in St Germain de pres.

Just as the sun begins to set you can find the light hitting the buildings just right. Last night I found myself chasing the light which sun sets around 9:15. It makes for very long days but when the right is just right you can’t go wrong in Paris.

Spring… to be continued

21

Two years ago I spent the most magical three months in Paris which has sparked a desire to return many times over. I experienced bitter cold days, snow, and the transition to Spring. As an American in Paris I could only spend 90 days in Paris without a Visa. Spring came later than usual because of the cold temperatures so just as I was leaving Spring was sprouting everywhere. You could feel the first days of Spring in the air. Terraces were filled with patrons and blossoms were popping up everywhere. My heart was breaking as I walked onto the plane, tears running down my face as I had lost a great love. I had in a way… Paris. I pushed back my Spring trip this year for many reasons.

One being I wanted to celebrate my birthday with my family. My sister and 20 month old niece will be in this week and will be sending me off on Sunday. I am so excited to see them and honestly I love them more than french baguettes, butter, and cheese combined. From pictures that have been posted in Paris the weather is warm and the blossoms have been popping. Its pretty much exactly where I left off two years ago and I guess I couldn’t have planned it any better. I am incredibly lucky to get the best of both worlds between being with family and experiencing Spring in Paris. As an added bonus my Aunt and Uncle will be joining me in Paris/Amsterdam later this month.

Counting Down to Paris

7

There are less than two weeks until I leave for Paris and I am wrapping up some projects here in the States and getting ready for my trip. So far I have a few trips planned outside of Paris including a weekend in Amsterdam, a trip to a beautiful B&B in the south west of France, and a week in Italy.

marais

Since my first solo trip to Paris in 2010 I have stayed in various arrondissement. The 7th, 16th, 18th,1st, 5th but I always find myself in the Marais. This year I will be staying close to the pompidou just 10 minutes walk to my favorite cafe in the marais and 10 minutes the other direction to rue montorgueil. You may be wondering why I always stay in a different area. The truth is I absolutely love my morning walks. Walking the streets in the early morning with the sun kissing the buildings and streets before everyone is awake is really beautiful. I love exploring hidden streets and courtyards and the more I see of Paris the more surprises I discover. I hope you will join me as I travel to Paris starting April 20th. Happy Birthday Madame Eiffel

2

When I arrive in Paris each time I make a point to make a nod to Madame Eiffel. Its like a tip of the hat to say hello nice to see you again. I have also gotten in the habit of calling her Madame Eiffel. Over the years I have shared many memories under the eiffel tower. I have seen her covered in fog, watched the sunrise behind her, blossoms blooming all around her, the most stunning sunsets with her as the focus, and yes I have even had romantic picnics under the eiffel tower. This is probably one of my favorite memories 😉

The eiffel tower has been part of some of my favorite Paris photos because what’s more Paris than Madame Eiffel? We will be reunited once again in just a few short weeks. I have a few things planned with Madame Eiffel and since our birthdays are less than two weeks, a celebration is in order.
