In the past couple of years I have been visiting NYC in the Summer. They have turned out to be some of the hottest days of the whole year. This time around I decided to visit NYC in the Winter hoping for snow. More specifically I was really hoping to see Central Park in the snow. Part of my trip didn’t turn out as planned but I was thrilled to see snow in Central Park. Monday my flight ended up being cancelled due to freezing rain, hail and snow. The park wasn’t a foot deep in snow but it was still beautiful. This time around NYC experienced some of the coldest days I have felt in a long time. Photographing is not so easy with gloves on my hands hurt for a while even after returning to warmth. I walked from the Upper East Side through the Park to the Plaza. I think it was worth the pain in my hands to be able to capture this beauty. What do you think?

When I woke up today it a cold winter rainy gloomy day in Paris. I headed to the Bastille market early and because of the rain not all of the vendors were there. I spent time looking up and down the aisles. One thing led to another and I had a full bag. It all started with the fresh beautiful eggs I couldn’t resist. Then I found breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Those photos will have to wait for another day. After heading home to cook and do work I was hesitant about heading out in the now hail that was happening outside. Then all of the sudden through my window peaked the sun! So I headed out and the light continued for about two glorious hours while I chased it around Paris.
Do you ever wonder what Paris looks like in the Winter? Today I headed to Luxembourg Gardens to see how it compared to other seasons. Surprisingly there were still people there doing the same activities they do other times of the year. Kids were playing in the garden, tennis matches were taking place, people were lounging reading in the gardens, and of course the chess players were still there. Here are a few photos from the day.
Wow, so its been about a week since my last post. The holidays kept me busy with family and friends and I have been trying to plan out 2014. I hope you all had a fun and relaxing end to 2013. What is on your new years agenda?
Where should I travel next, Paris or explore Italy? Would love to know your thoughts.
Paris offers different perspectives from all of the different areas around the city. From the top of Sacre Coeur to the Seine River. I love walking along the Seine and people watching. Walking along the Seine is very different in the Winter because there aren’t many leaves on the trees so you see the city in a different light. I loved walking along and coming across the Notre Dame Cathedral perfectly framed by the trees.
When I was invited to stay in Switzerland my first impression of what it would be like would be lots of snow!! It was going to be January. I had this idea that it was cold and just snowed for days on end. Well 4 weeks into my trip and we didn’t really have any snow in Baden. I was a little surprised. Then this week it started snowing and didn’t stop for 2 days. The pathways were not cleared and the streets were filled with snow. My flight to Vienna was delayed because the runways could not be cleared. This is what I was hoping Switzerland would be like. It has been extremely cold here in Europe. The cities I have visited over the past week Paris, Vienna, Baden, and Zurich have all been around -12 C. Yes, I am from Chicago but its freezing if you are outside photographing! So here is a quick look at Europe under the deep freeze.
Photographs from Vienna, Austria coming soon!
